Magnet for Innovative Thinking (MIT) Overview

Welcome to Porter Middle School's Magnet for Innovative Thinking (MIT), a forward-thinking program where students embark on a journey of knowledge construction through design-thinking!

Our liberal arts constructivist magnet opened its doors in August 2023, welcoming our first cohort of 6th-grade students to the vibrant campus of Porter Middle School in Granada Hills, California. At Porter Middle School Magnet for Innovative Thinking, education goes beyond traditional classroom boundaries. Our students engage in meaningful, real-world projects that are impactful to their communities. These projects challenge students to be innovative thinkers, creators, and doers, equipping them with the skills necessary to thrive in an interconnected and rapidly evolving global landscape.

Our Vision

At Porter Middle School Magnet for Innovative Thinking, our vision is to cultivate civically responsible, culturally aware, and empathetic community members. We empower our students to see themselves as creative thinkers with the potential to make a positive impact on the world.

Our Mission

Our mission is to inspire a lifelong love of learning by empowering students to construct knowledge through design-thinking. We provide an inquiry-based, interdisciplinary curriculum that is both rigorous and relevant, preparing students to excel in an ever-changing world.
